Адже багато спеціалістів, яких могли вважати незамінними на своєму місці, пішли на фронт. Отже, автоматизація як така та системи автоматизованого управління обладнанням стають дедалі більш важливими та актуальними. 

Історія партнерства компанії SOTASS з EnOcean

SOTASS – достатньо молода компанія. Ми з Ігорем Мещеряковим створили її у 2019 році, і з самого початку стикнулися з неабиякими викликами. Спершу всі долали наслідки пандемії, потім почалася повномасштабна війна, а наш офіс знаходився у тій частині Київської області, де було по-справжньому гаряче. 

24 лютого 2022 року я знаходився в нашому офісі у Броварському районі, а мій партнер – у Львові. В той же день я прийняв рішення вступити до лав Пристоличної ТРО та вже через день потрапив до лав групи швидкого реагування (ГШР). Поки я ніс службу мій партнер підтримував роботу компанії. Щоправда кількість комерційних операцій тоді на ринку України зменшилась майже до нуля. 

Якби хтось у той момент мені сказав, що незабаром наша компанія набуде статусу Solutions Partner та перед нею відкриються чудові перспективи, то я точно не повірив би.

Утім, повернемося трохи назад у часі. Раніше, ще навіть до створення компанії SOTASS ми з партнером Ігорем Мещеряковим декілька років працювали з технологіями Honeywell Arena та Tridium Niagara і мали навички конфігурування. Ігор навіть спеціально навчався та складав іспит в Англії, щоб отримати сертифікат Niagara-4 TCP (technical certification training program). Вже на той час ми здобули непоганий досвід у цій сфері та добре розуміли, що багато компаній в Україні потребує запровадження тих рішень, які ми пропонуємо. 

А в 2021 році ми познайомилися з іншою технологією від EnOcean, SmartServer IoT, яка на той час належала Renesas Corporation. Ці технологічні рішення були нам зрозумілі, і ми бачили, наскільки велика тут перспектива. Тож, якби не повномасштабне вторгнення ворога, що розпочалося 24 лютого 2022 року, ми б зуміли розгорнути новий вид діяльності набагато раніше. 

На щастя, компанії вдалося зберегти ІТ-бізнес, хоч наші співробітники виявилися розкиданими по різних куточках України. Звісно, допомогло спілкування online. Навіть ті, хто перебував на військовій службі, залишалися на зв’язку та продовжували спілкуватися.  

За якийсь час, коли ситуація на фронті дещо стабілізувалася, Ігор Мещеряков висловив сміливу ідею: «Давайте отримаємо партнерський статус з постачальником компанією EnOcean», яка на той час ще не придбала бізнес SmartServer IoT у Renesas Corporation, але успішно виготовляла датчики з автономним живленням, «давайте розширяти власне портфоліо, адже такі технології Україні потрібні саме зараз!». До жовтня 2022 року компанія EnOcean купує бізнес-напрямок SmartServer IoT у Renesas Corporation.  

Технології EnOcean справді схожі на ті, з якими ми вже працювали раніше. Однак там є низка беззаперечних переваг. Окрім рішення SmartServer IoT, компанія виробляє датчики та сенсори IoT і для їх роботи не потрібні проводи або будь-яке зовнішнє живлення. Вони фантастичним чином живлять себе самі, і це неймовірно, немає навіть батарейок!

Всі пам’ятають складні часи блекауту, коли енергосистема України працювала з перебоями. Досі багато хто згадує, як згасали можливості обладнання лише тому, що за годину-дві сідали батарейки. Від цього потерпала навіть критична інфраструктура. Зараз електрика є, але на порядку денному стоять ефективність її використання та майбутня економія. Тому технології EnOcean виглядають як цілком логічні та актуальні рішення, адже дозволяють заощаджувати значні гроші. Наведу лише два приклади, щоб дати розуміння того як IoT пристрої від EnOcean отримують енергію для власного живлення:

1. Коли ви натискаєте на перемикач, щоб увімкнути або вимкнути світло, сам перемикач використовує енергію, яка створюється силою вашого натискання на нього. Тобто, тої незначної фізичної сили, яку людина використовує для натискання на кнопку, цілком достатньо, щоб передати сигнал по протоколу Bluetooth Low Energy з частотою 2.4 GHz на відстань до 15 метрів. Таким чином, ви вмикаєте освітлювальний чи якийсь інший прилад, а сам перемикач не потрібно заживлювати ні від електромережі, ні від якоїсь батарейки.

2. Сенсор живиться від натурального або штучного освітлення у приміщенні. Цієї енергії йому також достатньо, щоб передавати дані до іншого обладнання. Зібрана інформація використовується, наприклад, щоб контролювати вологість, температуру, освітлення у приміщеннях.

Скажімо, скільки часу ми навчали людей вимикати світло у порожніх у приміщеннях, у яких нікого немає. Тепер цим займається автоматика. І вмикає світло вона ж, рахуючи навіть кількість людей у приміщенні і оцінює якість повітря також вона. По-перше, вона була значно дешевша, ніж тепер. По-друге, сама виробнича культура тих власників, відверто кажучи, не дуже висока. А тепер, уявить, наскільки важливо раціонально використовувати електроенергію, яку ви отримуєте, наприклад, від автономного дизель-генератора! Мабуть, ми можемо припустити, що проблеми з енергопостачанням можуть значно загострюватися до того часу, поки не закінчиться війна…

I'm holding the EnOcean partner contract in my hand and still can't believe we did it!  In fact, our SOTASS company's long-standing acquisition of Solutions Partner status is of great importance not only for the development of its own business. The main thing is that we now have real opportunities to powerfully promote the latest technologies in the Ukrainian market, which transform production, logistics, office, retail and other commercial premises into smart and energy-efficient businesses.  I will tell you about the benefits and problems in this publication.
 
What is EnOcean?
 
EnOcean, rightly considered one of the leaders in the production of open industrial platforms, integrated circuits and IoT sensors, now offers unique technical solutions for the effective management of commercial facilities. This is the SmartServer IoT is a modular server with an open interface that supports most of the existing protocols for connecting industrial sensors, controllers and IoT devices and a range of IoT devices themselves to improve infrastructure efficiency.

Since we are now living in a full-scale war with Russia, this problem becomes especially painful on a national scale. After all, many specialists, who could be considered irreplaceable in their place, went to the front. Therefore, automation as such and automated equipment management systems are becoming more and more important and relevant.
 
History of partnership SOTASS and EnOcean
 
SOTASS is a fairly young company. Ihor Meshcheryakov and I created it in 2019, and from the very beginning we faced extraordinary challenges. At first, everyone was overcoming the consequences of the pandemic, then a full-scale war began, and our office was located in the part of the Kyiv region where it was really hot.

On 24th February 2022, I was in our office in Brovary district, and my partner was in Lviv. On the same day, I decided to join the ranks of Pristolichna TRO and a day later I joined the ranks of the rapid response group (RSG). While I served, my partner supported the company. However, the number of commercial transactions on the Ukrainian market decreased to almost zero at that time.

If someone had told me at that moment that soon our company would secure the contract and became a Solutions Partner and great prospects would open from that, then I definitely would not have believed it.

However, let's go back a little in time. Earlier, even before the creation of the SOTASS company, my partner Ihor Meshcheriakov and I had experience of configuring solutions using Honeywell Arena and Tridium Niagara technologies for several years. Ihor even specially studied and passed the exam in England to get the Niagara-4 TCP (technical certification training program) certificate. Already at that time, we gained good experience in this field and well understood that many companies in Ukraine need to implement the solutions we offer.

And in 2021, we got acquainted with another EnOcean technology in the form of the SmartServer IoT egde solution, which at the time was a Renesas Corporation. These technological solutions were clear to us, and we saw how great the potential for it was. Therefore, if it were not for the full-scale invasion of the enemy that began on 24th February 2022, we would have been able to launch the new activity much earlier.

Fortunately, SOTASS managed to preserve its IT business, although our employees were scattered in different parts of Ukraine. Of course, online communication helped. Even those who were in the military stayed in touch and continued to communicate.

For some time, when the situation at the front stabilised somewhat, Ihor Meshcheriakov expressed a bold idea: "Let's secure partnership with EnOcean, which at that time had not yet acquired the SmartServer IoT business from Renesas Corporation, but successfully produced self-powered sensors, we planned to extend own portfolio, because Ukraine needs such technologies right now!". By October 2022, EnOcean acquired the SmartServer IoT division from Renesas Corporation.

EnOcean's technologies are indeed similar to those we have worked with before. However, there are a number of undeniable advantages. For example, in addition to the SmartServer IoT itself, the company produces IoT sensors that do not require external power or wiring. They are fantastically self-powered, and it's incredible, there aren't even batteries!

Everyone remembers the difficult times of the blackout, when the energy system of Ukraine worked with interruptions. Many people still remember how the capabilities of the equipment went out just because the batteries ran out in an hour or two. Even critical infrastructure suffered from this. Now there is electricity, but economy and efficiency is high on the agenda. Therefore, EnOcean technologies look like completely logical and relevant solutions, because they allow you to save significant money. In our opinion, it is they who will help Ukrainian business to recover faster.
 

Advantages of EnOcean technologies
 
It is very important that the implementation of EnOcean solutions does not require the reconstruction of commercial buildings themselves or the replacement of old industrial equipment. After all, as we have already mentioned, SmartServer IoT is easily integrated with all EnOcean sensors, as well as with all industrial equipment of key global manufacturers, such as Honeywell, ABB, Schneider, Danfoss, etc. This makes it possible to implement reconstruction projects without changing the current infrastructure. For example, in order to replace or relocate circuit breakers, it is not necessary to run new copper wires, which in itself would require internal repairs to be carried out in the building, as well as incurring significant cost.

In general, today the IoT sensor market is very broad. But we have those unique sensors that independently "harvest energy" for their power supply. I note that we do not offer our customers to simply buy some sensors. Our business is to use the latest equipment to create the latest systems of effective equipment management of the highest quality. As our experience shows, as a result of the implementation of such projects, operational indicators are always improved, as well as the controllability and stability of critical infrastructure systems, the expenses for the operation of premises are reduced and the term of such operation is increased, because SmartServer IoT will be able to inform you about problems with this or that equipment and you will be able to repair it at a time convenient for you and without waiting for its final failure.

I will give only two examples to give an understanding of how IoT sensors from EnOcean get their energy in practice:

1.    When you press a switch to turn a light on or off, the switch itself uses the energy created by the force of your pressing it. That is, the insignificant physical force that a person uses to press a button is quite enough to transmit a signal using the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol with a frequency of 2.4 GHz at a distance of up to 15 meters. Thus, you turn on the lighting or some other device, and the switch itself does not need to be powered either from the mains or from some battery.

2.    The sensor is powered by residual natural or artificial lighting in the room. This energy is also enough for him to transfer data to other equipment. The collected information is used, for example, to control humidity, temperature, lighting in the premises.

For example, how long have we been teaching people to turn off the lights in unoccupied rooms. Now this is done by automation. And they can turn on the lights, even counting the number of people in the room and measure air quality. Optionally, you can analyse the data and find out what energy resources are used to support each workplace. In which corners of the office, warehouse or production workshop do the greatest heat losses occur? A forgotten window opened in winter will not go unnoticed either. Appropriate software allows you to effectively manage any number of devices in both small and very large buildings.

There is a very simple answer to the question of why this is important today: energy resources are becoming more and more expensive. I recall that until 2021, when among our customers there were mainly shopping centres, some of which belonged to Russians, those entrepreneurs were quite sceptical about the need to save, in particular, electricity. First, it was much cheaper than now. Secondly, the productivity culture of those owners, frankly speaking, is not very high.

And now, imagine how important it is to rationally use the electricity you receive, for example, from an autonomous diesel generator! Perhaps we can assume that the power supply problems may worsen significantly by the time the war is over…

Finally, we guarantee a high level of cyber security. EnOcean fully ensures the safety of data in the systems and does not allow them to be taken over and used by any hackers. At least, the risks here are much less, not when using those current solutions, which have long been implemented in most companies.
 
What does SOTASS get from the status of Solutions Partner and why should it be of interest to our clients?
 
We did not create the SOTASS company as an ordinary online store where you can buy some equipment in bulk or retail. On the contrary, we intended from the very beginning to offer and integrate ready-made technological solutions that would bring maximum effect to our customers.
